I’m a supporter of higher-priced iPhone apps because an App Store with prices higher than $0.99 is more beneficial to developers than the status quo. Doubtful that this app will sell well, though.

As indicated by a very straightforward blog post, the Dropbox iPhone app is now available. It’s relegated Ninjawords off my home screen, and that isn’t an easy feat.
Version 2 of my (and many others’) favourite Twitter application, Tweetie, is now available on the App Store for $2.99. (iTunes link)

A small list I made comparing the 25 “Top Paid” iPhone apps to the 25 “Top Grossing” ones (Finnish store, 10/09/2009 14:33):
Top Paid / Top Grossing
- Geared (0,79 €) / MobileNavigator Nordics (49,99 €)
- Playman Track & Field (0,79 €) / MobileNavigator Europe (99,99 €)
- Camera Genius (0,79 €) / TomTom Western Europe (99,99 €)
- Civilization Revolution (3,99 €) / TomTom Nordic (69,99 €)
- Pajatzo (0,79 €) / The Secret of Monkey Island: SE (5,99 €)
- Sonar Ruler (0,79 €) / CoPilot Live Europe (79,99 €)
- UNO (3,99 €) / UNO (3,99 €)
- I Am T-Pain (2,39 €) / TomTom U.S. & Canada (79,99 €)
- Moto X Mayhem (0,79 €) / Need For Speed Undercover (3,99 €)
- Need For Speed Undercover (3,99€) / Civilization Revolution (3,99 €)
Finland may not be the largest Phone app market out there, but there are nonetheless some interesting points to be made here. While GPS applications are clearly the highest grossing, the only apps that appear in both sections are games priced at 3,99 € (Civilization Revolution, UNO and Need For Speed Undercover). Not a single 1 $/0,79 € app or game is in the “Top Grossing” section, but cheaper games are beating more expensive but also more well-known game franchises in the “Top Paid” section.

Though it probably has a limited market, I really like the idea of a sketchbook specifically designed for paper prototyping iPhone applications. A paper/pen combo is still to this day a developer’s most invaluable tool.
