Apple updates Macbook Air and Macbook Pro with USB 3.0

Two new USB 3 ports let you access a pipeline that’s up to 10 times faster than USB 2. And your USB 2 devices can still plug right in.

I’ve seen multiple outlets tout the fact that USB 2 and USB 3 share the same port on these devices — Is this really all that astonishing? Since, well, USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. I’ve got the same feature on my desktop machine at home.

I guess this is just one more example of the genius that is Apple marketing: making people excited about a “one-port solution” instead of just mentioning the equivalent term “backwards compatible”.
