Gritty, realistic, occasionally funny and constantly brilliant.

There really is nothing to add; This Is England ’88 is still all of these things. It’s some of the most brilliant television I have ever watched.

Treme, season 1

To explain why David Simon makes the best television in recent memory is nigh on impossible. Maybe it’s because that every second of his work values realism — be it in the setting or in the depiction of human beings and their interactions — above all else. Treme impresses in every area that The Wire impressed in some nine years ago.
